Metaphysical poetry can be defined as poetry that dates back from 17th Century Britain, which has an ethereal and abstract style. This genre of poetry makes use of a variety of structures and forms, but utilized similar styles. In 1693, John Dryden first coined the term in a description of a poem that was written by John Donne as having an effect on “the metaphysical.” Later it was popularized in 1781 by Samuel Johnson.

In his “Poetics,” Aristotle described poetry as a description of emotions. This was measured up against prose, which described actions and facts. However, there is no need for poetry to adhere to these narrow constraints; in reality, epic poetry and descriptive poetry go against the ideas of Aristotle and provide a description for things or events. Of all the different genres, metaphysical poetry veers towards both the emotion and the emotional concepts of the abstract. Metaphysical poetry is not concerned with love or war, but rather with the world in a sense that is non-scientific.

As was previously mentioned, lyrical poets in Britain during the 17th century gave rise to the notion of metaphysical poetry. The decade of the 1600s was a fast-moving and complicated time for Britain. It started with the merger of Scotland and England under the rule of King James. In addition, during that century Britain experienced the civil war, its only republican period, the emergence of religious minority groups as well as the expansion of science. This was a century of Isaac Newton, John Milton and Samuel Pepys.

There were a number of features that are showcased by these metaphysical poets. First of all, their poems were a display of great wit. In addition, they paid no attention to structural experimentation for the purpose of concentrating on theme and style. A number of these metaphysical poets were prone to make use of hyperbolic abstraction, while there were others who were drawn towards the perfection of beauty and Neo-Platonism. Georg Lukács thought of metaphysical poetry as the foreshadowing of existentialism.

The feature that was most important in this genre of poetry was the metaphysical conceit, which is metaphor that is stretched, utilizing more abstract and conceptual ideas than is typical in the normal use of metaphor, since regular metaphors replace one object or story with another object or story that is readily identifiable. In spite of the surface modification, the inner meaning will remain the same.

Spiritual metaphysics is essentially what comes to us or what we come to, whenever we are prepared to stop seeing the world from a point of view of separateness. A number of aspects of being are there, including spiritual, emotional, mental and physical. However, the spiritual metaphysics is where spirituality and science not only get together but they support each other, instead of creating a situation of religion versus science. Very few can refute having had a number of the following experiences where a minimum of these aspects are seemingly oddly linked.

Thinking about a person that you have not seen or thought about in ages and then running into that individual on the street.

A dull pain in the center of the back which dissipates suddenly once the decision has been taken to let go of past hurts.

Being aware that something is not quite normal and then only to find out that a relative or friend has died.

Receiving the answer to a prayer by way of the most extraordinary and unexpected set of circumstances.

Some of these things could come across as being purely coincidental and society has been taught to view these kinds of events in that manner. However, science is assisting spiritual metaphysics by offering proof of something that is amazing. Events such as these are taking place in a world which is not at all incredibly separate; all of life is energy and in addition to that, what is thought to be the non-physical and the physical is in actuality one and the same.

In the beginning, the metaphysical philosophy was essentially a philosophy of matter, form and causation. However, it would make a lot of sense that something which studies existence and the nature of being, both unseen and seen, would have to include dreams, religion, astrology, psychology, meditation, positive thinking, yoga, clairvoyance, extra-sensory perception, reincarnation, auras, spirits and a myriad of topics. To facilitate properly defining metaphysics, the definition has to include the issues which fall under the realm of spiritual metaphysics.

If there is no involvement of spiritual metaphysics, no way is there to totally answer questions in relation to the personal meaning for being born, the meaning of life, what and who God is, why individuals experience suffering, what characterizes reality and a number of the vital questions which each and every individual seeks an answer for at some point.

There are various ways of defining metaphysics, some more philosophical than others. Most people agree that metaphysics studies the first cause principals or in simpler words, it looks to shed more light on creation of the Universe. The reason why metaphysics is so attractive and controversial is that it touches upon those issues which material science fails to comprehend.

The inception or initiation of metaphysics is a fascinating story that excites many, but to tell the truth, different versions of this story have come to light from historians and you can get enlightened on this subject by visiting our Metaphysical History section. Anyone who is familiar with the ideas of earliest spiritual thinkers and their reasoning about the relationship of spirit to life can claim to have a fair idea about the origin of metaphysics.

While some believe that they can find traces of metaphysics in the ancient Egyptian and Chinese traditions, others point towards the likes of Plato, Aristotle and Homer and then there is a school of thought that believes that the Incas and Aztecs had some part to play in development of metaphysics.

New Age Metaphysics – Metaphysics in the ‘New Age’

Just like other eras in history such as the Aquarian Age, the ‘New Age’ is a period that has been described by historians as the era when spiritual knowledge will evolve. We currently find ourselves in this extraordinary period that had been forecasted by many visionaries and physicians such as Nostradamus, Lazarus and Edgar Cayce. The reason why the ‘New Age’ is extraordinary is that the believers consider this as an opportunity for humans to raise their consciousness to the level of the creator. No wonder Christians often refer to this era as the era of Jesus Consciousness!

New Age Metaphysics brings together science and faith in a supreme fashion as it aims at infusing scientific theories with the ideas argued under the New Age Cycle, in other words, it creates a beautiful balance between logical reasoning and inner beliefs.

Pagan Metaphysics

If we say that the principles of metaphysics act as the foundation on which Pagan beliefs stand, then it would not be incorrect but it can mislead us onto thinking that metaphysics gave birth to paganism. In fact, Pagan ideas find their origin long before anyone ever came up with terms such as ‘metaphysics’ or ‘paganism’. Think beyond this play of words and you will understand the true relationship between Pagan ideals and metaphysics principles.

While the followers of New Age Metaphysics lay their emphasis on the positive side of things, the followers of Pagan Metaphysics also consider the dark side. In fact, not only Pagan ideals acknowledge or recognize the negative side but they reason that unless you look at darkness you cannot identify what light is. By not turning a blind eye on the negative, Pagan metaphysics puts forth the idea that it is the negative that defines the positive.

Metaphysics as a religion

Whether people agree or not, the fact remains that majority of present day religions find their roots in metaphysics. However, this fact has given birth to a misconception that metaphysics itself is a religion. The fact is that Metaphysics not only encompasses or originates religions but many sciences, philosophies and literature find their roots in this doctrine. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why most encyclopedias and dictionaries define metaphysics as a philosophical theory that professes that “all things are part of each other and searches to discover first cause principals”.

However, when we set out to analyze religions that spring from the fountain of metaphysics, we find that these religions preach that everything is part of God, but nothing individually can be identified as God. They paint God as the ultimate source of life, of good and evil, of fertility and drought, of abundance and scarcity and so on. But while defining different religions the rituals, beliefs and principals their followers embrace and follow should always be considered.

From the very beginning to this day the Universe is constantly evolving, but this gradual progression went through different phases. Some of these evolutionary phases progressed quicker than others and this gave birth to different Soul Groups or Stars that in turn nurtured different civilizations that grew and became conscious of the balance between the spiritual and the physical. While on the one hand, many prophets claim that their evolutionary journey was fueled by the Divine or God, others took a different view and credited their spiritual advancement to a natural cycle. However, there is a general consensus that each of these civilizations contributed to the Universe in their own way.

Science may not support the creation of Soul Groups but the same is confirmed and in fact, enlightening knowledge on the subject can be found in the works of prophets such as Edgar Cayce, Lazarus and Seth. Scientists such as Dr. Raymond Moody who have documented research on the Past Life have made a fair contribution in allowing us to understand how different Soul Groups or prehistoric civilizations shaped up life on Earth.

Over the years, researchers compiled the works of prophets, scientists and fellow researchers on the Soul Groups and concluded that these Soul Groups or heavenly civilizations first influenced the evolutionary process initiated on Earth roughly 600,000 years ago. In those days, roughly around the third root cycle, humans were well on their way to develop their intelligence but the Soul Groups facilitated in this spiritual enlightenment. Often described as the ‘Army of Spiritual Development’, these Soul Groups landed on Earth with a mission of imparting heavenly knowledge, but to this day their exact motives are still unknown.

There are different theories explaining the objectives the Soul Groups wished to achieve on Earth. Some of these theories are explained as under but this is by no means a comprehensive explanation.

While some prophets propagate the idea that the Soul groups merely intended to accelerate the evolutionary process the humans were going through, other prophets suggested that the heavenly groups wanted to share and pass on the treasures of knowledge they had discovered to make sure that in case their civilizations were annihilated due to any cosmic disaster, the knowledge would remain safe.

More radical thinkers profess that humans are nothing but ex-Gods whose Godly powers were seized because of their sins and transgressions and ever since their arrival on Earth, humans are striving to redeem their old sins by going through a spiritual evolution to regain the God consciousness which they were once worthy to hold.

There is yet another theory that puts it all down to the Divine design of things stating that it was the original design to bring different civilizations together in order to pool up the collective wisdom and knowledge of different groups living separately in the Universe. The ultimate purpose of giving rise to one collective mind was served this way.

The last concept we will discuss here is perhaps the most interesting since it argues that Earth is nothing but a ‘Grand Experiment’ and it considers the principles of different faiths. Under this ideal, all humans are considered to be the re-incarnates or descendants of different Soul Groups working together to achieve the higher objectives set by the Soul Groups.

Thousands of years of research and soul searching has enabled mankind to understand the different Soul Groups that announced their arrival on Earth even before humans were conscious of their surroundings. All in all, there are five separate Soul Groups named after their birthplaces in the Universe. They are:

The Octorians:

Being humanitarians, the Octorians are thought to be the group that believed in spreading love and kindness among humans. It was the Octorians who played a major role in the rescue effort after destruction of Atlantis.

The Cyrians:

They are the masters of knowledge and allowed humans to learn science and law. At the same time, they taught humans to apply order in both physical as well as spiritual sciences.

The Polarians:

This Soul Group is of the view that there will be no life unless a balance is maintained between the physical elements and the spiritual domain.

The Antarians:

The Antarians are the pathfinders and their teachings enabled humans to learn sciences such as astronomy and astrology that have empowered humans to find their own place in the grand cycle of life.

The Pleiadians:

The Pleiadians or the Bridge Builders have undertaken the work of spreading the message of spirituality giving humans the power to create a connection between the mind and the spirit.

A journey that began about 600,000 years ago still continues as we as incarnates of the Soul Groups continue to evolve and use the basic knowledge of our ancestors for this purpose. This incarnation was the first and most important step in this evolutionary process or else the Soul Groups would never have been able to share their wisdom and knowledge with the residents of Earth this effectively. From one civilization to the next, the journey has been a smooth ride and the accumulated knowledge of each Root Race continues to be passed on to the next generation.

Over the years, different ideas and beliefs have evolved among different sections of the world population. Some of the more popular Christian beliefs include the idea that the Universe is God’s work, that man was created by God and woman from Adam’s rib. On the other hand, Science puts forth the idea that all life forms including man evolved from a single sludge. When we put together the two conflicting theories, we come up with Metaphysics.

At the very beginning, there was only one entity which has been given several names over thousands of years by spiritual thinkers. ‘The All’, the Divine, the Goddess, God and ‘the Everything’ are just some of the names that are coined all pointing to the same essence or energy that caused the Universe to be created by causing its energy to expand in the shape of physical mass.

It is next to impossible to state with any certainty the period which was needed by the Great Spirit or the Consciousness to make this happen. Whether it happened in the fraction of a second or in tens of millions of years, what can be said with assurance is that the occurrence of this event is still retained by mankind as a whole in their memory.

Pleased at what the Divine had created by expanding itself, it decided to go further and expand the initially created mass from within itself to outside in all directions, and this event is often referred to as by modern scientists as ‘the Big Bang’. It is precisely at this point that mere faith and hard science converge beautifully. This convergence only goes on to solidify the claim that Metaphysics makes by stating that religion and science are just the same.

Once the Universe was created as a result of ‘the Big Bang’ life was created on different planets, starting an evolutionary process that continues to this day. Once the ball was set rolling, it was time for the spiritual evolution which could never have happened if it were not for the ‘touch of the Divine hand’ or the ‘Divine Intervention’.

We see God in everything, because the Universe and those who live in it were created from a miniscule part of the Divine. Hence, individuals like the readers of this article cannot claim to be God themselves, but when we take a step back and look, we see a part of God or the Divine. This forces us to conclude that all life forms especially humans are interconnected with each other because out origin is the same.

The Divine Universe in which we reside today continues to evolve just like it nurtured life from the very first day. As different groups or civilizations went through different evolutionary stages, some reached advanced stages and became more enlightened as compared to others. This was all part of the ‘Grand’ plan of the Divine power that created the Universe and life itself. Creation of Soul Groups or the Celestial Star was all carried out by the Divine Hand. And it was Divine Intervention when these Soul Groups were

guided to impart their knowledge with those groups that were less evolved or less enlightened.
