Unhealthy Weight Gain In The Winter

Unhealthy Weight Gain In The Winter

Yes, it happens to all of us. It starts to get cold and before we know it, we start to pack on the calories. But believe it or not, it is normal to some degree. Your body is trying to compensate for the cold by storing food as reserves. So when it comes to Winter you need to work out even more to get rid of that extra little bit.

We know that some animals are prone to doing this in winter like Bears. But unconsciously we would also choose foods that are that bit sweeter and tastier than normal. That means it will have more fat in it as well. It comes down to our hormone levels and what our bodies need over the winter as well.

You may find some people may experience a ‘Winter Depression’ because the nights are longer and the daylight is shorter which will also affect how we eat. Some people have a habit of eating a snack when feeling depressed and this can lead to long term weight gain so it is essential you watch what you eat.

It might be good for you to consider substituting things by eating foods that have high fiber content but are low in fat like wholegrain rice, cereal, fresh fruit and wholegrain bread. You would be surprised how this can help when you feel a bit picky. Alternatively just drink a bit of water and that will make you feel full as well, not to mention it is healthy for you.
